- These patients have difficulty/inability to manage consistent compression for the fluid and have significant fluctuations in size not appropriate for knit garments at this time: compliance issues, active disease (cancer, tumor, etc), limited mobility, limited assistance, medication interactions, post-operative swelling (see below)
- The goal for unstable patients is to get them stable for knit garments designed to maintain stable limb size. They are prescribed with compression classes listed below:
- Class 1: 20-30mmhg seamless due to unstable edema such as post-operative or trauma, heaviness but absent fibrosis
- Class 2: 30-40+mmHg fibrosis present, pitting & restricted ROM due to volume, high BMI
- USA Only: Use of a pressure monitor can accurately give pressure objectives
